My second item for this objective is a 10-page literature review on the effect of a narcissistic parent on their child. I chose this paper because I am fascinated by this subject and the trauma that can be caused by a narcissistic parent on their child, along with the ramifications of this as the child grows to adulthood and has their own children. This project also demonstrated my ability to review articles and integrate them into a sophisticated literature review.

My second item for this objective is a reflection blog based on reading and article regarding Microaggressions. This article, and the blog that reflects on it helped me understand what many microaggressions people of color face daily and how they impact their mental health. This is crucial information for counselors so that we can be sensitive to what they have gone through and how it shapes their view of the world. It also is important information to know so that we can help advocate for them in the future.

The third item for this objective is an eight-page paper covering a clinical area of interest for me, that of mass trauma in the African American Community due to police shootings of unarmed African American men. This paper helped me understand better the impact on the African American community when unarmed black men are shot by police and how that affects their mental health, as well as how it impacts this country's racial divide. This project helped me understand how issues going on in our country have even more dire consequences for minorities that greatly affect both their mental and physical health and helped me understand how to advocate for greater care.

My third item for this objective was a Mindfulness in Counseling Blog Post. This project helped me understand the importance of mindfulness and what it means to me, therefore helping me to understand how embracing it can help me help others. I am often one to do seventeen things at once, to try to get too much done at the same time, and I am not always present or mindful of myself and others. This can lead to disconnection with who I want to be and with those around me, something that is especially lousy as a counselor. Though the study of Mindfulness is relatively new to me, this reflection post helped me understand its use and importance both in my personal life and future professional work.
